KID FRIENDLY DINING ROOM ON A BUDGET

KID FRIENDLY DINING ROOM ON A BUDGET

Having kids doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. And I swear that you can have a stylish home on a budget! This dining room mock up is full of practical, budget friendly pieces.

I love these cabinets from Ikea. Yes, you’ll probably have to forget the bar cart with the kiddos around, but you could arrange all your pretty dishes and bottles of adult beverages in these and the 2 knobs would allow for a childproof lock! You may be scared of the black, but it will really make your china (especially simple whites) pop! Ikea is also a great place of basic dinnerware at an affordable price. Nothing to cry to over if it gets broken. It is hefty stoneware too, nothing like that Corelle of the 80s and 90s.

This dining table from Target is practically a steal at $224! And hey let’s be honest, it if gets ruined, you’ll be glad you didn’t splurge on that heirloom quality piece! The benches, also great for kids, are from another set sold from target. I love to mix and match! Full disclosure: I really don’t like all the plastic baby gear that comes with having a baby. This Highchair is wood (like real furniture!) and since it is from IKEA it does not carry that designer price tag.

Grey, black and natural wood look fantastic with hues of blue and pops of white and gold. Don’t be afraid of mixing even a dark blue with black. It is quite sophisticated. This navy and white patterned rug is much more subtle than you’d expect when it is actually on the ground. It looks like denim. This rug us extremely kid friendly because it is an indoor/outdoor rug. That means it is highly durable and cheaper than most large room sized rugs. I have a similar one in my dining room that is no longer available. The customer reviews sold me on it because it is washable. This description of this rug from Dash and Albert boasts that you can even Bleach it!

Are you decorating a home that is not your forever home? This color palette is extremely pleasing to buyers. Grey Owl from Benjamin Moore is my favorite color of the moment. If you’ve tried to pick a grey for a room, you know it can be tricky depending on the light and other tones in the room. Many grey paints will appear green or even lavender when put on the wall. In my experience, Grey Owl, reads as a true grey in every room i have used it in. I have painted it in four very different rooms, all with success. A bright white celling and trim will also help the grey shine as it should. I like Chantilly Lace, also from Benjamin Moore.
